Opportunities are like sunrises. If you wait too long, you miss them. – William Arthur Ward

Opportunities are like sunrises. If you wait too long, you miss them.

MEANING OF THIS QUOTE

Opportunities are the intersections where hard work meets success. More often than not, we get to these intersections as a result of our own planning and efforts. However, life sometimes surprises us by sending unexpected opportunities our way. While this sounds like an absolute gift, something that can fast-track our progress to our goals, it always isn’t an easy decision to make. Sometimes one just isn’t ready for the surprise. And before we are over this hesitation and deliberation, the opportunity has slipped out of our hands.

SHOULD WE ACCEPT EVERY OPPORTUNITY THAT COMES OUR WAY?

Not necessarily. However, it is only right to do so if this opportunity aligns with our goals and skill set. For instance, it doesn’t make much sense for a student to turn down a scholarship just because it arrived a bit too early for their liking. Waiting for everything else to fall into place for us to grab our chances is as good as voluntarily turning down the opportunity itself. There is nothing such as the perfect time to do something. Ultimately, it all boils down to how much one wants something. People with a burning desire to accomplish their goals grab these opportunities with both hands, while those who dilly-dally often look back on what could have been.

CONCLUSION

An opportunity is like a sunrise – you wait too long and it’s gone. In a world as competitive as ours, a golden opportunity is already hard to come by. Passing over it is akin to further compromising our chances of success. It is, therefore, critical to embrace every opportunity that comes our way.

William Arthur Ward was a motivational author. Known for his inspirational articles and poems, one of his motivational quotes liken a good opportunity to a sunrise: “Opportunities are like sunrises. If you wait too long, you miss them.”
