MEANING OF THIS QUOTE

Life is uncertain in that no one can predict what course it will take. We can make all the plans we like, but there isn’t much we can do when things do not go to plan. There are things that we don’t want to happen but they happen because that’s just how life works. Think of life as a river and unexpected events as the river’s powerful currents – you can resist the currents as much as you like, but that simply prolongs the inevitable. You could try swimming against the current, or you could just let it take you wherever you are destined to be.

DO HUMAN DESIRES NOT MATTER, THEN?

Well, in a way they do and in a way they don’t. You get to set goals for your life and follow those ambitions up with an action plan. While life may upset your plans with its twists and turns, it’s not the end of life as such. You can always put on a brave face and continue along the path you set out to. If that somehow isn’t possible, you can take this fiasco as an experience that will come in handy later on in life. The key is to know that we’re all here for a reason, and that everything that happens to us has a reason.

WHY SHOULD I MAKE PLANS AND TRY?

Because that’s what makes you human. Animals can’t dream or plan; you can. If life upsets one of your plans, get back up and make another one. If the second plan gets thwarted as well, pull yourself back up and make a third one. Accepting failed attempts, heartbreaks, and bitter experiences as part and parcel of life is meant to make things easier for us. It should never be an excuse for us to stop trying.

CONCLUSION

Hardships are the reality of life. It would be outright foolish to expect life to be smooth sailing. You will inevitably have some of your aspirations shattered. Some of your relationships will end in unavoidable pain. In fact, something or the other will always go wrong. You can either choose to feel sorry for yourself for as long as you please or accept those experiences as an inescapable truth of life. An anonymous quote probably encapsulates this very essence of life better than any other: “There are things that we don’t want to happen but have to accept, things we don’t want to know but have to learn, and people we can’t live without but have to let go. It is nature’s nature.”
